ORGANIZER:
THE RELIQUARY
Art Toys are objects of
worship, and for his veneration has been made this artwork, a reminiscent of
reliquaries that are exposed in churches for the recognition of their faithful
followers.
This work of art comes from
the imaginary universe of “Art Toy Maison” brand, from Spain.
And one of their characters,
Miscelanius Ganekogorta- a rare and curious bug, with a proteinaceous character
and multiform. Extremely egocentric and able to unfold only to worship itself,
and made of resin - joins with other sofubi style characters- a Japanese vinyl-
created by the Awesome Toys company from Hong Kong. We talk about the
"Fake Baron" Super Robot in its different variants, and inspired by
an illustration of the 70s of a Japanese card game called Menko. All part of a
single artwork remembering that the union is strength.
Through recycled materials,
resin and wood, is given shape to this temple whose centerpiece is a radiant
sun that adorns "the virile" or passenger compartment that holds -
and represents - the essence of this cult: the Art Toy; as a reflection of the
artist's eye, destined to interact, communicate, be exposed and displayed.
A subversive artistic work-
which intend to alter the order. Become an object of worship. Be in the
limelight. Demanding audience participation; a very particular type of
"play". Expecting that you prepare for this kind of artwork a
particular scenario and an appropriate atmosphere. Hoping to be displayed and exhibited,
and being built a place attached to its personality and the personality of the
person who possess and loves it...
That is why it is crowned with
a sphere that wields the phrase "More than (dis)play", a phrase that
for Art Toy Gama Collective captures the essence of this new artistic movement,
this "new" artistic religion. A phrase that reinforces the other
phrase that proudly exhibit the four Miscelanius Ganekogorta at the base:
"This is not a toy". Motto of the Art Toys.
Because beyond its aesthetic
of "toy", this is an artistic object, a reliquary created for more
than just to be "looked at and contemplated" - More than (dis) play.
An artwork that responds to an inner need we all have, the "play",
though not in the traditional sense, but as an experience of enjoyment,
curiosity and enthusiasm - because "This is not a toy"
Finally, indicate how the
reliquary has been painted inspired by the faience and tiles produced in
Talavera de la Reina (Spain), popular pottery with five centuries old, of
Muslim origin, and described by some as "childish beauty, naive and
sometimes surreal", though charged with tradition and art, something like
Art Toys.
